1. Far Away Friends four way split
Far Away Friends is a four way split released by Party Wound/Brain Ache and features songs by Manbearpig, Cavalcades, Nai Harvest, and For This World Is Hollow And These Hands Have Touched The Sky. As soon as I heard this album, there was no doubt in my mind that this would be my #1 album this year. Not only is every band and song on this split amazing, but this also introduced me to several new...

2. Todos Caerán- After Dark
I love living in Edmonton. We’re so lucky to have the amazing scene that we do, and Todos Caerán are one of the best bands in it. After Dark is their first full length, and is part of a massive stream of records they have been releasing over the past year, which includes splits with Mahria, Bears, Book of Caverns, and Gumilinski. You might think that with so many releases, there would...

3. White Ribs- Darwinners and Losers
I’m amazed that Three One G hasn’t shown interest in this band. That statement alone should tell you all you need to know about White Ribs, but I’ll tell you some more. White Ribs are an incredible band from Victoria, BC that play noise punk/experimental hardcore/I have no idea what to call it. What I can tell you is that there’s definitely some The Locust worship here....

4. Cavalcades- Nothing Worse Than Empty
If you read my blog when it was on blogger, you know that I’ve already reviewed this album, so I’m not going to go into great detail this time. What I will say is that this band is incredible. One of the best screamo/hardcore bands I’ve heard in a long time, and this is hands down one of the best releases I’ve heard this year. Download this album (cause I swear I bought...

5. Mahria- S/T
Ok guys, I’m back to reviewing. I’m doing my top 5 albums of 2011 over the next couple days, so here we go. Mahria is a female fronted skram band from Edmonton. I have to admit that when I first heard their songs on the Todos Caeran split, I wasn’t really into them. No idea why, but I just couldn’t get into it. But I saw them live a few times following that first listen,...
